Visitor centre Woudagemaal Lemmer

experiencing an unique place

The ir. D. F. Woudagemaal, a working steam-driven pumping station, was awarded the status of World Heritage Site in 2001. The huge interest for this unique monument created the need for a new visitor centre. The new building forms a relevant aspect of experiencing the complex, in which the functioning and importance of the station are presented. In the building, visitors can not only take in the exhibition, but also get a fresh look at the station itself from the corridor and footbridge when they walk to the monument for a guided tour. Back in the visitor centre they can enjoy the beautiful view on the bay of Lemmer, into which the station pumps the water.
