Playing with size and scale

Nineteenth-century houses in Frisian villages are instantly recognisable. The proportions of the window frames, windows and layout of the fa├žade are a constant factor and make for a harmonious image. Even though there are large and small houses, they are all versions of one basic type, either scaled up or down. This play with size and scale was used for a new, freestanding house for a young family. It looks like a one floor building with a roof, but actually there are 1.5 floors, with an eaves height of 4.5 meters
